Chrysler Cars – Past, Present, Future
The motor car vision created by Walter P. Chrysler has endured to date as a storied history of one of the Big Three auto manufacturers in the United States. Over decades, Chrysler cars have been trendsetters in terms of style, innovation and response to consumer demands. Chrysler has also maintained its presence in the automotive industry by adding to its primary flagship line name brands such as Jeep and Chrysler Dodge cars and by making Chrysler car parts readily available through an expansive dealer network.
Whether keeping up with the times by adding Chrysler car stereo systems as standard equipment or the development of Chrysler concept cars and Chrysler smart cars, the company has remained competitive with its American rivals, Ford and General Motors. Chrysler’s 2003 concept car, Chrysler Crossfire is a blend of American and German engineering and styling, offering fuel efficiency without sacrificing power, a Chrysler hallmark dating back to the Chrysler muscle cars of the 60′s.
The Daimler Chrysler smart car and Daimler Chrysler electric car though developed and in production, will probably not debut in the United States until 2008 because of American Mercedes Benz resistance to placing them in their showrooms.
Chrysler turbine cars were a near thirty year experiment from the 1950′s through the early 1980′s and though a number of Chrysler cars were produced, they were never able to mass produce a critical component of the engine cost effectively. Advances in electric powered automobiles and hybrid cars during the last two decades have pushed the turbine powered engine and subsequent research aside.
The concept car Chrysler ME Four-Twelve prototype has been unveiled and is touted as the most advanced Chrysler product ever developed, and is the first mid-engine car in Chrysler’s line up. A quad turbo, V-12 powered Chrysler ME is designed and built for power, speed and aesthetic beauty. With a top speed of 248 miles per hour, the agile Chrysler ME car fits nicely into the super car category.
Chrysler car rentals are readily available at the top car rental agencies such as Avis and Thrifty. Chrysler cars line up of models meet business and pleasure traveler’s various needs from small fuel squeezers to convertibles, spacious vans and luxury sedans.
Like all auto manufacturers, Chrysler cars have been subjected to various recalls, the most recent involving 145,000 Dodge Ram light pick-up trucks with passenger air bag compatibility problems and wiring flaws. Recalls are generally addressed by local dealers at no expense to the car owner.
Historically, Chrysler cars have attracted a loyal legion of buyers. Though Chrysler has never achieved the unit sales volume of its rivals Ford and General Motors, its followers have stayed with Chrysler, even during the years of Chrysler’s near collapse and bankruptcy. During its period of financial crisis, Chrysler’s charismatic leader Lee Iacocca turned the company’s fortunes around by securing the U.S. government’s financial backing, publicly announcing that he would fix his annual salary at One Dollar, and by appearing personally in Chrysler television advertisements. His plan worked and Chrysler returned to profitability and enjoyed unprecedented growth and success during the ensuing period.
